Unprecendented Growth
Despite real estate slow downs in other parts of the country coastal North Carolina continues to experience growth, attracting families from all over the country seeking a more relaxed beach lifestyle outside of the congestion of cities.
Brunswick County and the Brunswick Islands are identified as the fastest growing county in North Carolina and 27th fastest growing in the country. Some forecasts indicate that the growth in the next 5 years will surpass that of the last 200.
Much of the growth is attributed to the 78 million baby boomers moving into retirement wtih roughly 10,000 boomers turning retirement age every day for the next 19 years! Additional studies indicate that of the enourmous demographic, 42 million families have identified the southeast as future retirement, second home, or vacation home location.
The beautiful and pristine beaches, temperate climate, rising job opportunities, abundance of golf courses and access to boating and fishing are attracting a wide gamut of would-be residents. Coupled by the attractive tax structure, it is tempting for families, especially retirees, looking for areas where their dollar will get them more.
The explosion of new businesses in the area are welcome additions to the county, including the building of new hospitals, doctor parks, grocery stores, shopping centers, restaurants and other businesses addressing the daily needs of the current and future residents.
The local government has been working diligently to support the growth, introducing roadway infrastructure, utilities, and park systems to address the needs of the burgeoning population. Recently a new recreational park located in Ocean Isle Beach began and is slated to be completed by spring 2010, as well as several other park projects throughout the county.
The county is moving forward in a positive directions with county officials monitoring developers and planning boards committed to preserving the character of coastal North Carolina through strong zoning restrictions and preservations requirements for some of the countries most diverse wildlife and plant habitats.
